For nearly two years, Savita Wagner wrote a diary from the front lines of the war in Ukraine. Shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, she signed up as a humanitarian aid worker. Soon after, she joined the army and served as a combat medic – experiencing, among other things, the liberation of Bucha and the Battle of Kharkiv. On January 31, 2024, she was fatally wounded while attempting to rescue two wounded soldiers.
